Harry Potter Book Jacket Design

This project was designed and illustrated by me. I submitted it to Bridgewater State University's 2023 Student Art Show where it was not only accepted but also won the award for 'Best In Graphic Design'! 

I created this project in my senior year of college for my Advanced Graphic Design class. My job was to take one book of my choosing and re-design the cover and a chapter page. However, I am very ambitious and tend to go big or go home... So instead of choosing one book, I chose to do a whole series!

 My professor was originally unsure of me choosing the Harry Potter books as they are overdone and she was not positive I could take them and make them entirely new and my own. She went on to tell me that passed students of hers had done this series before, and they were lacking originality and she was concerned that I would end up having the same outcome. 

HOWEVER, I was quickly able to change her mind completely, when I showed her my sketches for the covers.  Once she looked them over, she was convinced and gave me the go-ahead. This was because my designs were nothing like the original book covers from the illustrations to the typeface they were completely my own and unique to my style. 

This project was a huge challenge that I took upon myself but I was determined. I only had three weeks to design and illustrate seven book jackets and an interior layout. I was able to get it all done within my deadline and I am extremely happy with the outcome. Hard work and dedication always pays off!
